Naval Region 3 marks anniversary with sports tournament

Naval Region 3 held a sports competition in Da Nang from Oct. 19 to 22 to mark the 51st anniversary of its traditional day. Nearly 200 athletes competed in men’s and mixed doubles pickleball and men’s volleyball. The tournament included 28 men’s doubles teams, 7 mixed doubles teams and 8 volleyball teams, with 82 matches scheduled.

The Technical Support Center won the men’s doubles pickleball event, while the Regional Staff Department took mixed doubles. Brigade 172 won men’s volleyball. The event was intended to encourage fitness and strengthen ties among service members and units, according to VTV.vn.

Gulf Breeze to get four-court indoor pickleball club

Dill Dinkers plans to open an indoor pickleball club at 330 Gulf Breeze Parkway in Gulf Breeze, Florida. The site is set to have four dedicated courts with wider layouts and ProCushion surfaces, along with coaching, leagues, recreational play and programming for players of all skill levels.

Regional developers Beth Wilson and Amy Wallace are behind the franchise location. Wilson said she wanted to bring dedicated indoor play and a community for pickleball players to northwest Florida. Wallace said the sport helped her meet people, stay active and build friendships after moving to the area.

Cuenca pickleball tournament set for Oct. 24

The Club Pickleball Cuenca is holding the second Ciudad de Cuenca tournament on Oct. 24 at the Luis Yúfera Recuenco university sports pavilion. Players are expected from provinces including Toledo, Madrid, Valencia, Alicante, Castellón and Ciudad Real. Club president Luisán Rosillo said participation is slightly lower than last year, but he expects a similar level of play.

Players will start in joint groups before being divided into two categories based on their results for knockout rounds. Doubles play is scheduled for the morning, followed by singles in the afternoon. Featured players include Ricardo Moscardó, Pablo Sánchez Ayala, Javier Landa and Quique Francés, whom El Deporte Conquense identified as a ProTour 4.5 circuit champion.

Pickleball advice: trust preparation instead of overthinking

A column in The Dink argues that players can perform better by relying on practice and instinct rather than consciously tracking every movement during a fast exchange. The writer connected that idea to comments by Calgary Flames goalie Devin Cooley about playing best when he trusts preparation and lets his body react.

Pickleball Union’s advice for players competing with stronger partners is to simplify their role, trust their best shots, communicate clearly and focus on decisions rather than outcomes. The article cited pro Gabe Tardio’s account of feeling tight early in his partnership with Ben Johns before gaining confidence that Johns trusted him to play his game.

The bank said its cardholders can receive 20% off tickets to the team’s 18 home games and merchandise for the new season, when purchased online or in person.
