Tiangong Robot Sets 100-Meter Record, Then Crashes Into Wall and Catches Fire in Beijing
The World Humanoid Robot Games produced a record-breaking sprint and a reel of falls, while the tracking site Roboxing says robot-fighting leagues still leave major events without full result sheets.

Record-Breaking Sprinter Crashes and Catches Fire at Beijing Games
The World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing had 666 teams and more than 2,000 robots competing, but the highlight reel was dominated by disasters rather than achievements. A humanoid robot called Tiangong set a world record in the 100 meters at 8.86 seconds, but it could not brake after crossing the line, slammed into a wall and sent sparks out of its waist before catching fire, forcing staff to rush in and put it out.
Other events fared no better. A weightlifting robot lost its balance mid-lift, crashed into the judges' table and could not get back up. Soccer turned into what one report called a chain of falls, with robots needing staff to lift them off the field. In boxing and freestyle fighting, robots reportedly swung at empty air because they could not find their opponents, one got tangled in the ring ropes and gave up, and another threw a spinning kick, missed, and fell down, handing its opponent a win by default.
Robot-Fighting Leagues Still Can't Produce Full Result Sheets
A tracking page from Roboxing listed 14 gaps in the public record of humanoid robot fighting as of October 17. Shadow Combat League's First Light event on May 23, 2026, has results for three bouts that rest on a single aggregator with no established record, and the league itself has not published a result sheet. For URKL's Shanghai stop on September 19, press reports say White Eagle's team won both sessions, but that claim traces back to one wire text carried twice, and Xinhua's English report names no winner at all.
Control methods are just as murky. Unitree claims its UnifoLM-X2-1.0, announced September 7, 2026, is the first fully autonomous high-dynamic humanoid combat system with no teleoperation and no choreography, but that is the maker's own unverified claim. Sources also disagree on how autonomous URKL's robots are, with some saying a human supplies intent and others saying the robots act with full autonomy. China Media Group announced a CMG2026 competition in June with still no date or venue for its finale, and Hero Esports announced an eight-city CyberHero season at its Riyadh launch but has only named the one city.
Unitree Opens Showroom, Canton Fair Draws Crowds to Robot Bouts
Unitree has opened a showroom in Tianjin with zones covering quadruped obstacle climbing, smart home scenarios, industrial sorting, power equipment inspection and even a robot comedy performance. Fighting demonstrations are one attraction among several in a building used to show the company's robot product line.
At the Canton Fair, humanoid robots faced off in table tennis and boxing, and coverage says the demonstrations drew crowds and caught the attention of buyers on the trade-show floor.
