Parvinder Awana named BCCI junior selection committee chair
The BCCI has appointed former India pacer Parvinder Awana chairman of its newly formed junior selection committee. Awana played two T20Is and 62 first-class matches, taking 191 wickets, and represented Delhi, India A and Rest of India. He also played in the IPL for Kings XI Punjab, now Punjab Kings.
The other appointed members are Krishna Das, Rakesh Patel and N. Arjun Yadav. The BCCI said its Cricket Advisory Committee screened and interviewed applicants before recommending the appointments. A fifth committee member will be appointed shortly.
Awana moved into coaching after retiring, working with Delhi age-group teams, India U19 and BCCI and Centre of Excellence high-performance programmes. Das took 166 wickets in 49 first-class matches and later coached India U19 and Uttarakhand. Patel coached Baroda and Gujarat teams and was Baroda U23 head coach in the 2025-26 season. Yadav played 83 first-class matches, was part of India’s 2000 U19 World Cup-winning squad and has served as a BCCI match referee since 2022.
Ishan Kishan ruled out of second T20I against New Zealand
India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the second T20I against New Zealand with a low-grade right adductor strain sustained during the series opener. The BCCI said its medical team is monitoring his progress but did not give a recovery timeline.
India won the first match by four wickets on October 22, 2026. Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said the injury was the reason Kishan batted at No. 5 rather than his usual No. 3 spot in the opener, and said Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could be a contender to replace him if Kishan was unavailable.
Harry Brook sets ODI record with 114-ball double century
England captain Harry Brook made the fastest double century in men’s ODI history, reaching 200 against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi off 114 balls. He surpassed Shubman Gill’s mark of 117 deliveries and became the first England batter to score an ODI double century. Brook finished with 202 as England made 429-4.
Brook’s innings also eclipsed Ben Stokes’ previous England ODI record of 182. He struck 21 fours and 10 sixes, while Joe Root scored 69 and Will Jacks made an unbeaten 66. England’s total was the highest in an ODI in Pakistan, according to the ICC.
Tim David returns to Tasmania one-day cricket with World Cup place in mind
Tim David is set to represent Tasmania in the domestic one-day competition as he seeks to make Australia’s squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Tasmania coach Jeff Vaughan said David was serious about improving his one-day game and that upcoming fixtures fit his franchise schedule.
David has not played a List A match since appearing in four ODIs before the 2023 World Cup. He scored two centuries and an unbeaten 52 in eight innings for Surrey in England’s One-Day Cup. Vaughan said David wants to keep playing the format, learn it and make himself available for Australia’s World Cup squad.
Sitanshu Kotak praises Samson and Abhishek’s composure
India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak praised openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma for combining power and intent with control under pressure. Samson made 67 off 33 balls in India’s opening win over New Zealand, while Abhishek contributed during the powerplay.
Kotak backed the team management’s decision to stick with the pair despite calls for 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to play. He said the attention around Sooryavanshi’s place in the XI was not good for a young player, and described him as talented with a bright future.
Naman Dhir makes an impact as India chase down New Zealand
Naman Dhir finished unbeaten on 42 from 15 balls as India chased 226 to beat New Zealand in the first T20I at Christchurch. He came in during the 15th over with India needing 55 from the final five overs and helped complete the chase with two balls to spare.
Dhir’s innings included a six off the final over and came after India lost a cluster of wickets following a strong start. Hindustan Times noted that his quick scoring came with some good fortune, while The Hindu highlighted that 88 of his 110 international runs had come from boundaries across six innings.
Kotak called Dhir a promising talent who understands what is expected of him and can contribute as a finisher. He also said Dhir can bowl more than he has shown in first-class and List A cricket, and praised his fielding.

England’s total was built around Brook’s record 202, but Sri Lanka recovered from 24-2 and stayed ahead of the required rate. BBC Sport reported that the teams’ 859-run aggregate was the second-highest in ODI history, while Sri Lanka’s 430-8 was the third successful 400-plus chase in the format.

The 859-run aggregate was the second-highest in ODI history and the highest in a List A match in Asia, the report said. Brook became the first England batter to score an ODI double century, but his 202 was not enough to prevent Sri Lanka’s two-wicket win.
