Welcome to Open Scoring MMA. This is episode 99 for September 25th, 2026, your daily look at what's happening now and next across the world of MMA and UFC.
NORA: Raul Rosas Jr. and Raoni Barcelos both made bantamweight, no drama.
DUKE: And that matters because both guys are coming off strong performances.
NORA: Non title fight, but the winner's got a real case to jump into the rankings conversation at one thirty five.
DUKE: The kid's been fast tracked since his UFC debut.
NORA: And Barcelos is the more seasoned finisher, this is a legit crossroads fight buried in a Fight Night slot.
DUKE: And hey, fans on X are already buzzing off the early weigh-in footage.
NORA: The crowd reaction to the bantamweight main eventers stepping on the scale, that clip's getting shared everywhere this morning. Cheap content, real hype, works every time.
DUKE: Alright, let's talk injuries and returns, because Rodolfo Bellato's story on this card is wild.
NORA: Four months ago he had emergency spinal surgery, and he's stepping into the octagon Saturday at light heavyweight.
DUKE: Emergency spinal surgery to fight timeline in four months is not normal recovery, and he's making weight at ninety three kilos for this one, so the real question is how that back holds up once the takedowns start.
NORA: It's not, and he's already calling it a battle he won before he even gets to the cage.
DUKE: If he looks sharp Saturday, that's a huge marker for a guy who was staring down a much longer layoff.
NORA: A light heavyweight who can survive that and still compete is somebody I want to track going forward.
DUKE: Meanwhile, we're hearing Robert Bryczek is no longer in the co-main slot for Fight Night 289.
NORA: He's not hiding his frustration either, and he's reportedly weighing a part time move to Vegas to train.
DUKE: That tells you he's serious about staying in the mix, not just taking whatever fight lands in front of him.
NORA: Losing the co-main spot stings, but doubling down on the training base is the right response.
DUKE: Now, callouts and beefs, and Tony Ferguson did not have a good night.
NORA: His comeback fight press conference for Misfits Boxing went completely off the rails with influencer antics.
DUKE: He said, quote, "What I do is I represent myself very well," end quote, and honestly, fair.
NORA: He's a former UFC interim lightweight champion getting thrown into a circus, of course he's annoyed.
DUKE: This says nothing about his in-cage form, but it tells you exactly what kind of promotion this comeback is.
NORA: Manage expectations accordingly.
DUKE: Big roster news too, UFC just signed an eleven and oh bantamweight prospect.
NORA: Called the best prospect in the world by some, and that division was already loaded.
DUKE: One thirty five keeps getting deeper and deeper.
NORA: It's genuinely one of the strongest weight classes in the sport right now, adding a perfect record like that only raises the ceiling.
DUKE: And over in PFL, Asael Adjoudj is walking into a real test.
NORA: He's on a three fight PFL streak, and now he will face Movlid Khaybulaev, a two time featherweight tournament champion, at PFL Dubai on November 14th.
DUKE: Khaybulaev's unbeaten too, right?
NORA: Unbeaten, and this is Adjoudj's biggest test yet if he wants to be taken seriously in that tournament format.
DUKE: Let's get to the rankings, because Arman Tsarukyan is making noise after his statement win at UFC 331.
NORA: Our panel's actually asking out loud if he's already the number one lightweight in the world.
DUKE: That's a bold question for a division with the champion still very much active.
NORA: It is, but a statement win like that forces the conversation, he's not waiting his turn quietly anymore.
DUKE: If he's number one on merit, that's basically a title shot waiting to be scheduled.
NORA: Exactly the pressure point the champion's camp has to deal with now.
DUKE: Speaking of the champion, Islam Makhachev's spot in the GOAT debate is getting fresh attention.
NORA: Former UFC fighter Diana Belbita weighed in, saying, quote, "I will never count Islam out. I'll never think he goes into a fight as an underdog. The guy is just so good.
DUKE: That's a real compliment wrapped around a real warning.
NORA: She's flagging that Prates is a dangerous opponent.
DUKE: Now, before we get to the biggest scheduling news, let's touch UFC BJJ 11.
NORA: That went down Thursday night at the Meta APEX, Mikey Musumeci against Bryce Mitchell in the main event.
DUKE: Mitchell stepping up to featherweight for it adds an extra layer of unpredictability to how that one plays out on the scorecards or the mat. Alright, the news I've been waiting to get to, UFC 334 is officially set for Madison Square Garden.
NORA: November 14th, and it's stacked with two title fights.
DUKE: Ciryl Gane defends the undisputed heavyweight title against Josh Hokit in the main event.
NORA: And we're hearing there's a women's bantamweight championship bout on the card as well.
DUKE: Nunes coming back for a two division legend run at Harrison's belt, at the Garden, that's a massive night.
NORA: Two big titles on one card in New York, that's about as good as a fall pay per view gets.
DUKE: Alright, let's get into that Gane fight properly, because our model's got a number on it.
NORA: Ciryl Gane, seventy one percent to beat Josh Hokit.
DUKE: And the betting line's got Gane favored too, right?
NORA: The line implies about sixty nine percent, so we're a touch higher than the market.
DUKE: Just a couple points, that's not exactly a bold stance.
NORA: It's a lean, not a lock, but there's real substance behind it.
DUKE: Give me the substance then.
NORA: Gane's got a three inch height edge and a seven and a half inch reach advantage over Hokit.
DUKE: That's a big gap for a heavyweight fight.
NORA: Huge, and it means Gane can control the distance the whole fight, especially since Hokit's Orthodox too, so there's no awkward angle to solve.
DUKE: What about the age gap, doesn't Gane give up some years there?
NORA: He's eight years older, which is a slight mark against him, but at heavyweight the reach and length matter more than the birth certificate.
DUKE: And Gane's just been here before, hasn't he, the big stage stuff.
NORA: He's defended titles and fought elite competition like Ngannou and Jones, Hokit hasn't been tested at that level yet.
DUKE: Okay, I buy the lean.
NORA: It's Gane, seventy one percent, we're leaning his way over the market and it's the reach and the resume doing the heavy lifting.
DUKE: Alright, real quick, before we move on, I gotta say something about that Ferguson presser.
NORA: Go for it.
DUKE: A former interim champion getting stuck next to influencers screaming for cameras, that's just a rough look for the sport.
NORA: It's a rough look, but it's also just where combat sports crossover events are right now.
DUKE: I get the money, I do, I just don't love watching a legit fighter get lumped into that circus. Credit to him for staying composed in the middle of that mess.
NORA: Class move, honestly.
DUKE: Alright, let's preview what's coming next on the actual UFC calendar.
NORA: Dana White's Contender Series, Season 10, Week 8, is scheduled for Tuesday the twenty ninth.
DUKE: We're hearing George Staines against Loai Abushaar is on the card, and there are other bouts expected as well.
NORA: Contender Series is always the best place to spot the next big signing, and given what we just talked about with that bantamweight prospect, the UFC's clearly still hunting for talent.
DUKE: And right after that, UFC 332 lands on October 3rd.
NORA: Natalia Silva takes on Wang Cong in the main event.
DUKE: It's a card with some intriguing matchups.
NORA: Big two weeks coming up, no question.
DUKE: Alright, that's all the time we've got today.
NORA: Enjoy the fights tomorrow, we'll be back with everything that happens out of Vegas.
