Josh Hokit doesn't do subtle. Ahead of his UFC 334 title shot against Ciryl Gane, the number four ranked heavyweight sat down with Ariel Helwani and went after half the division.
The headline claim, reported by Yahoo Sports, Bloody Elbow, Sherdog and LowKick MMA, is that Tom Aspinall is faking the eye injury that forced him to vacate the heavyweight title. Hokit suggested Aspinall is exaggerating the damage from the eye poke he suffered against Ciryl Gane so the UFC will release him and let him chase a boxing payday instead.
There's no evidence backing that theory. Hokit sits at 1087 off 10 professional fights, and our model likes Gane to win their November 14 clash at 71 percent, against betting odds of minus 250 for Gane and plus 210 for Hokit.
Hokit doesn't think Gane earned the belt either, telling Helwani, 'I don't think he deserves an undisputed title, but it's better for me because when I beat him, I'll be undisputed.'
He wasn't finished. On Gable Steveson, who was knocked out by Sean Sharaf in the first round last month, Hokit said, 'I heard he's not practicing properly. I heard he's not even sparring. Adversity is here. He's over there smiling and still trying to uphold this fake image.'
