Anik, Sharaf Both Wonder If Steveson Has a UFC Future Left

After a 12-second knockout loss to Sean Sharaf, Jon Anik doubts Gable Steveson reaches ten UFC fights while Sharaf himself jokes about walking away.

Gable Steveson's UFC heavyweight run hit a wall last month, and the fallout is still spreading. Steveson was knocked unconscious by Sean Sharaf in just twelve seconds, one of the most lopsided finishes in recent UFC history, and now the broadcast team covering it is openly wondering what comes next for him. Jon Anik raised the question directly, doubting Steveson even makes it to ten fights in the UFC and asking how a fighter regroups from a loss like that. Sean Sharaf, somewhat remarkably, is asking a version of the same question about himself. and both reported that Sharaf is weighing retirement after the biggest win of his career, wondering aloud, "Can I beat that?" There's a real case for Sharaf stepping away on top. Whether he fights again or not, he already has the finish that defines him. Steveson's situation is murkier. The former Olympic wrestler came in with outside hype, and Joe Rogan has since raised his own theory about what went wrong, questioning whether Jon Jones left Steveson overconfident heading into the fight. That ties into a report from Aaron Bronsteter making the rounds on r/MMA, in which Steveson said Jones coached him through the staredown and told him not to make eye contact with Sharaf because Sharaf wasn't worthy of his respect. None of it changes the result. Steveson lost in twelve seconds, and now two of the sport's own voices are asking out loud whether his UFC career has much runway left.
