UFC heads back to Salt Lake City this Saturday for UFC 332, with Natalia Silva meeting Wang Cong at the Delta Center for what has been reported as a flyweight title fight. MMA Fighting describes it as being for the undisputed women's flyweight title that was vacated. Our own tracker still lists Shevchenko as the reigning flyweight champion, so the belt's exact status looks set to keep getting debated right up to fight night.
Whatever is on the line, the matchup itself is clean on paper. Silva sits at number one in the women's flyweight rankings and carries a 1616 Elo rating built over seven bouts in our system. Wang Cong, ranked eighth, rates 1577 across six bouts and is coming off a unanimous decision win over Tracy Cortez this past July 11. Yahoo Sports has Wang leaning into her self-described Joker persona heading into the fight, brushing aside anyone who says she has not earned a shot at Silva.
Ag Fight frames the stakes in national terms too, noting Silva is chasing a flyweight title that would be a first for Brazil in women's MMA. The country has already produced champions in ten of the UFC's weight classes.
Bloody Elbow reports Dustin Poirier thinks two former UFC stars are backing the wrong Deiveson Figueiredo versus Payton Talbott pick. Our numbers show Figueiredo ranked ninth at bantamweight with a 1508 Elo from nine fights, coming off a submission loss to Song Yadong this past May 30, while Poirier himself rates 1488 across five bouts in our tracker.
ESPN's preview digs into why the card is light on women's fights overall, even with Silva headlining. Sherdog's live coverage begins Saturday at 5:30 p.m. ET, with Paramount+ carrying the broadcast.
