UFC Fight Night: Buckley vs. Malott is scheduled for Saturday, October 17 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada, with welterweights Joaquin Buckley and Mike Malott both hitting their marks ahead of Saturday's card in Canada. ufc.com Malott headlines on home soil, and he won't be the only Canadian in a marquee slot. ufc.com

The main event is a tight one on paper. Buckley sits at number 10 in the welterweight rankings but is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Sean Brady back in May. Malott, ranked 13, enters red hot after finishing Gilbert Burns by knockout in the third round in April. Our model gives Malott the slight edge at 54 percent to Buckley's 46, and the betting line reflects a close fight too, with Malott at minus 125 and Buckley at plus 114. Our Elo numbers have them nearly even as well, Malott at 1578 over seven bouts and Buckley at 1564 over nine. The co-main carries a bigger gap. Blanchfield is ranked third at women's flyweight and sits as a minus 320 favorite, with our model giving her a 72 percent shot. ufc.com Jasudavicius, ranked sixth and unbeaten in her last outing after a decision win over Karine Silva in April, is the plus 270 underdog at 28 percent. Ahead of the headliner, Malott has been reflecting on a career that once looked like it might never reach the UFC at all, having been told by some that he'd never make it. Now he's topping a card in his own country.
