Renato Canuto Captures UFC BJJ 12 Lightweight Title

Canuto outpointed Ethan Crelinsten over three rounds at Meta APEX to win the UFC BJJ 12 Lightweight Title, then immediately called for a rematch with Lucas Valente.

Renato Canuto is the new UFC BJJ 12 lightweight champion after taking a three round unanimous decision over Ethan Crelinsten at Meta APEX, according to MiddleEasy.

Canuto controlled the bout across all three rounds, though he made clear afterward that he wasn't fully satisfied with how it played out. He's a grappler who wants finishes, not just scorecards, and he said as much once his hand was raised.

"I really wanted to get that finish, like always. Super happy to have my whole crowd here," Canuto said.

The win puts him at the top of the UFC BJJ 12 lightweight bracket, but Canuto didn't spend much time celebrating before pointing toward his next target. He used his post fight moment to call out Lucas Valente, pushing for a rematch between the two.

That callout gives the lightweight weight class an obvious next storyline. Canuto now holds the title and the leverage that comes with it, and a rematch with Valente would let him settle unfinished business while defending his new belt in the same breath. For Valente, it's a chance to answer a direct challenge from the man now sitting atop the division.

Crelinsten, for his part, pushed Canuto the full three rounds before coming up short on the scorecards.

Canuto has the title. He's made his intentions clear. The next move belongs to the promotion.
