Pimblett Lays Out Early Takedown Plan for Gaethje Rematch

Paddy Pimblett has already mapped out how a rematch with Justin Gaethje would go, and it does not involve trading in the pocket again.

Paddy Pimblett has already mapped out how a rematch with Justin Gaethje would go, and it does not involve trading in the pocket again. "Shoot in in the first 10 seconds, put him on his back and choke his ass out," he said, according to MMA Fighting. Sherdog and BJPenn.com both picked up the same comments, so this is Pimblett on the record, not a stray quote getting passed around.

The two met at UFC 324 in January, where Justin Gaethje defeated Paddy Pimblett for an interim lightweight title. Gaethje then kept rolling, last fighting on June fourteenth, when he beat Ilia Topuria by knockout in the fourth round. Justin Gaethje is the current Lightweight champion. That win pushed Gaethje's Elo to 1579 across his last six bouts in our tracker, with Topuria, the man he beat, still ranked number one at lightweight despite the loss.

Pimblett has stayed busy too. He is back in action most recently on July eleventh, finishing Benoit Saint Denis with a D'Arce choke in the first round in just fifty two seconds, a performance that has him sitting at number five in the lightweight rankings with a 1565 Elo over his own six tracked fights. Only fourteen points separate him from Gaethje on that number, which is about as close as it gets before a second meeting even gets booked.

There is no official announcement of a rematch, just Pimblett stating his intentions out loud. Fans have been chewing over his path back to a title shot anyway, giving the Scouser no shortage of options being floated for him at 155 pounds.
