Tom Nolan Survives Early Onslaught, TKOs Moicano in Round 3

Tom Nolan absorbed heavy grappling from Renato Moicano before rallying with vicious strikes for a third-round TKO in the UFC Vegas 123 main event.

Tom Nolan just put the lightweight division on notice. After getting dragged into a grappling nightmare early, with Renato Moicano hunting submissions and controlling position, Nolan showed patience, defended everything thrown at him, and then flipped the fight entirely. He battered Moicano's body and followed it upstairs, finishing the Brazilian with ground and pound in the third round of the UFC Vegas 123 main event at the Meta APEX. That's six straight UFC wins for Nolan, and it's the kind of comeback that gets you talked about as a real player at 155 pounds, not just a guy who survives adversity.

There's some noise online about the stoppage coming while Moicano still had positional tools available, but the broad consensus from fight coverage is the same: Nolan turned a defensive performance into a violent finish, and that's a statement regardless of how tight the stoppage window was. For Moicano, this is a tough one to swallow. He bet on a quick turnaround and it didn't pay off the way he wanted.

In the co-main event, Jacobe Smith kept his unbeaten record intact, grinding out Randy Brown over three rounds for a shutout unanimous decision, 30-26 across the board. Smith leaned heavily on wrestling rather than the knockout power he's known for, bloodying Brown along the way and proving he can win a fight on the mat just as easily as standing. That puts him at 14-0, and Brown now has to figure out his next move after dropping another one.

The rest of the card had real fireworks. Julian Erosa closed out his UFC run the best way possible, flattening JeongYeong Lee with a brutal first-round knockout before announcing his retirement. Not a bad way to walk away from the cage.

Jean-Paul Lebosnoyani handed Farman Hasanov his first loss in gruesome fashion, opening up a cut around Hasanov's eye that was bad enough for the doctor to step in during the third round at the 2:11 mark. It was Lebosnoyani's first UFC finish, and by the sound of it, a nasty one.

Luana Santos kept rolling too, out-grappling Yana Santos for a clean 29-28 sweep on the scorecards. She repeatedly dragged Yana to the mat and made her work for every escape, picking up her fourth straight win and staying unbeaten in the bantamweight division.

Cody Durden got back in the win column against Ode Osbourne, leaning on wrestling to take the first two rounds before surviving a late rally from Osbourne to close it out. All three judges had it 29-28 for Durden, who also donated $10,000 to charity after the win.

Down on the prelims, Dakota Hope needed a split decision to get past Francis Marshall for his first UFC victory, surviving some heavy leg kicks along the way, and Rodrigo Sezinando picked up a doctor-stoppage TKO win over Theodor Berggren. A rough night all around for anyone standing across from a leg kick specialist or a ground striker at Meta APEX.
