Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are expected to stand face to face in London on Wednesday, September 30, after a drug-testing dispute briefly threatened to blow up their first press conference. The event is set for 6 p.m. BST at the British Airways ARC at Olympia, streaming on Netflix.
The snag centered on VADA, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association. Joshua's side understood the contracts to require both fighters to enter VADA's testing pool once they signed. Fury's camp read it differently, saying testing would only start once the fight was officially finalized. As of Monday afternoon, Fury reportedly had not enrolled, and Joshua was said to be weighing staying in his Dubai training camp instead of flying to London.
That does not settle everything. Netflix's announcement framed the December bout as a collaboration involving Alalshikh's The Ring and Dana White, the UFC and Zuffa Boxing chief. Eddie Hearn says Joshua's contract blocks White from a promotional role and expects him to skip the press conference. White has disputed that reading, telling reporters over the weekend, 'I guess I'll leave that as a surprise,' when asked if he would show up.
Wednesday's press conference looks back on, but the promotional fight between Hearn and White is not over.
