Staines Outpoints Abushaar as DWCS Season 10 Week 8 Wraps

George Staines beat Loai Abushaar in the main event while Adama Diop, Ian Escuza and Aieza Bertolso all picked up wins on a finish-heavy Contender Series card.

George Staines got the better of Loai Abushaar in the lightweight main event at the Meta APEX, handing "Savage Bull" his second career loss. Staines came in unbeaten himself and kept that run going, and given how DWCS works, a performance like this in the headline slot is exactly the kind of thing that gets a promotion locked up. Abushaar had won four straight coming in, so this was a real step up in competition and a real answer for Staines, who trains alongside Paddy Pimblett.

The next bout didn't make it out of round two. Heavyweights Zaurbek Sabanov and Adama Job met in the cage, and Sabanov leaned on his wrestling and Sambo background early, working left low kicks and middle kicks. Job caught the kicks and turned it into a punching clinic, finishing Sabanov by TKO at 2:13 of the second round. For a division that lives and dies on finishes, that's about as clean a heavyweight statement as you'll see on this show.

Down the card, Ian Escuza put together one of the stranger and more entertaining finishes of the night. In the featherweight bout, his opponent came forward with a one-two hook, and Escuza met it by grabbing a clinch and cracking a knee to the body that ended things in just 32 seconds of round one. That's a blink-and-you-missed-it finish, and it's the kind of highlight DWCS producers love to run back for months.

The card opened with Aieza Bertolso making short work of Camila Reynoso in the women's strawweight bout. Bertolso pulled guard, gave up nothing in the process, and locked up a darce choke to finish the fight at the 3:02 mark of round one. Three minutes and it was over, no wasted motion, no drama beyond the tap. Bertolso was a former LFA Strawweight Champion, and this performance did nothing to suggest that level was a fluke.

Add it all up and this was a card built on finishes. Three of the four bouts covered here ended before the judges had to get involved, and the one that did go the distance still delivered a changed hand and a shaken record in Abushaar's column. That's the appeal of Contender Series in the first place: fighters swinging for contracts instead of playing it safe, and on this night at the Meta APEX, most of them made the aggressive choice pay off.

Staines walks away from Las Vegas with his unbeaten record intact and a win over a fighter who'd been on a real roll. Job's clinch counter turned a kicking battle into a stoppage in under five minutes. Escuza's 32-second knee and Bertolso's three-minute darce choke round out a night where almost nobody needed the final bell. For fans wondering who deserves the next call up from this promotion, this episode gave Dana White plenty to think about.
