Dana White is going to need a new runner. Salahuddin Everett, who has worked for the UFC boss in that exact job, stopped Ozzy Martin in the first round on Dana White's Contender Series Tuesday night at the UFC APEX, and the knockout was enough to get him signed to the roster. White did not hide how much the moment meant to him. He told he could not recall the Apex being louder, even for title fights, saying 'We've had title fights in here, I don't know if it's ever been as loud as it was tonight for your fight.' He went further, calling Everett 'a great kid' and "a great human being," adding that "this could not happen to a better person." Everett, for his part, summed up the strange symmetry of the night by telling, 'It's kind of weird because you're already at the UFC, but welcome to the UFC.' Everett was not the only winner on the card. Preston LaGrange, a plus 400 underdog stepping in on short notice at 199 pounds, knocked out Nell Ariano at 2:24 of Round 1. Mateus Soares needed just 63 seconds to finish Ryuho Miyaguchi. And Roque Conceicao punched his ticket with a slick triangle choke, a year after losing to Imanol Rodriguez in his first DWCS appearance. Four contracts went out in all, but Everett's story is the one that will travel. He spent his nights running errands for the most powerful man in the sport, and now he gets to share a locker room with him instead.
