UFC 333 fight week is in full swing, and the build to Volkanovski vs. Evloev is pulling in voices from across the sport. Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski defends against Movsar Evloev on October 24, a fight priced at minus 109 for the champ and minus 106 for the challenger, with our own model splitting it almost evenly at 49 percent to 51 percent in Evloev's favor. Evloev, ranked number one at featherweight, enters off a majority decision win over Lerone Murphy back in March, and his Elo sits at 1597 across four tracked bouts to Volkanovski's 1505 across six. Mike Brown has sided with Evloev's conditioning and discipline heading into the fight, even while crediting Volkanovski's standing as champion.
The co-main event for UFC 333 is expected to be the third chapter of Petr Yan versus Merab Dvalishvili. According to Ag. Our model actually favors Yan's workrate less than the books do, giving him 55 percent to Dvalishvili's 45, and the Elo gap backs that up, with Dvalishvili at 1611 over seven bouts and Yan at 1552 over six. Michael Bisping has already offered his pick for the trilogy bout, and UFC.com ran its own coach breakdown of the matchup this week.
Looking further out, Volkanovski addressed Yan's stated desire to eventually move up to featherweight, saying the jump would be "tough for anyone," a respectful nod to a potential future rival.
Elsewhere on the card, heavyweight contender Alexander Volkov has not been shy about his feelings for opponent Rizvan Kuniev, ripping him over his prior release from the PFL. Volkov, ranked number two at heavyweight and coming off a unanimous decision over Waldo Cortes Acosta in May, is priced at minus 118 with a 59 percent model lean and a 1573 Elo built on six fights.
